A hit-and-run incident in San Bernardino County that ended in a fatal shooting that left two men dead was witnessed by two young children, authorities said.
The San Bernardino County Sheriff’s Department said in a news release that Jonathan McConnell was riding his motorcycle in a lane split on Highway 210 on Saturday when he crashed into a car carrying Aaron Harris’ sedan with his two children, ages 2 and 5.
McConnell, 38, got off the highway and Harris followed, according to the department.
The motorcyclist drove to Joy’s Lounge, a bar in Highland City. Deputies said he pulled into a parking lot where some people he knew were there.
Harris pulled into the parking lot with her children, and Harris, 37, stopped the car and began yelling threats at McConnell, authorities said.
The department said Harris fired as McConnell approached his car. McConnell fired back. Officers found them suffering from gunshot wounds and took them to the hospital, where both died.
Deputies said the children were not physically injured, but a man at the scene was shot in the hand.
