    2024 College Football Win Totals: Bet on These Three Teams

    Roster turnover, scheduling quirks and chemistry — although one coach below was confused as to what that term meant — can all impact a season’s win total.

    As the start of the 2024 season approaches, bettors may consider the following factors when betting on winning totals:

    Colorado, +120 to win under 5.5 (BetMGM)

    The showmanlike character of his dual NFL and MLB career and the early months of Deion Sanders’ tenure as Colorado’s head coach have given way to petty squabbles with the local media.

    For such a convoluted topic as the definition of the word “support,” the argument feels like it’s misplaced for a program that finished last season 1-8, especially among FCS powerhouses and history. It comes just weeks after sexual power conference derailer North Dakota State visited Boulder.

    Never mind exceeding the 5.5 wins most books put Colorado State at; a loss to NDSU could leave the Bulls trying to avoid the kind of 1- and 2-win seasons that preceded Sanders’ arrival. Win or lose, Week 1’s games should provide a telling barometer for the adjustments Colorado will make to its struggling offensive and defensive lines in 2023.

    A season ago, the Hornets ranked 110th nationally, a sign of their lack of depth up front, and ranked second-to-last in sacks and last in rushing attack — a sign of depth.

    Sanders may not like to quote that word, but Colorado needs to significantly step up its performance on both lines. Otherwise, bettors with Buffs under 5.5 wins have until Halloween to cash in their tickets.

    Liberty, under 10.5 wins +112 (FanDuel)

    Jamey Chadwell has a proven record of overachieving wherever he has been as head coach. Chadwell led North Greenville to its best season ever, finishing 12th in the conference. 2011 II; led Charleston Southern to four straight wins and back-to-back FCS playoff appearances in 2015 and 2016; then followed up with back-to-back 11-win seasons at Coastal Carolina in 2020 and 2021.

    His most recent accomplishments as head coach are the most noteworthy, with Liberty winning 13 games and reaching the Fiesta Bowl a season ago. Expectations are understandably high as the Flames enter their second season under Chadwell, with most books setting Liberty’s win total to match national title contenders like Georgia and Ohio State consistent.

    The Flames should once again be a part of the Conference USA, thanks in part to an explosive offense from quarterback Keden Salter and running back Quinton Cooley. However, a tougher schedule than Liberty had last season makes sub-10.5 wins a worthwhile game.

    Liberty will travel to Appalachian State University for a marquee non-conference date on September 28th. And has its own perennial overachiever at the helm, Rich Rodriguez.

    South Carolina, 5.5+ win +110 (FanDuel)

    Non-district games against Old Dominion, Akron and Wofford could guarantee South Carolina no fewer than three wins in 2024, but the Gamecocks’ schedule isn’t conducive to three more wins.

    Since Tennessee and Clemson ended their College Football Playoff aspirations for 11 consecutive weeks in 2022, South Carolina is 4-8 against strong opponents. The 2024 Gamecocks face two teams that have four wins against South Carolina — Kentucky and Vanderbilt — but both teams are on the road.

    The Gamecocks may need to sweep those dates to give themselves a realistic chance of surpassing the 5.5-win threshold. South Carolina must also travel to Alabama and Oklahoma in back-to-back weeks before traveling to Death Valley to end the regular season at rival Clemson. Opponents for conference home games are expected to be a variety of opponents from the upper echelon of the SEC: LSU, Ole Miss, Texas A&M and Missouri.

    South Carolina’s defense came out strong behind DeBo Williams and JT Sanders. However, there are enough issues surfacing for an offense that scored 20 points or fewer in seven games last season, combined with a daunting league schedule, that we can bet on how well they perform. It would be nice.
