I will be leaving Spotify soon and handing over the baton
Yes, it’s true, no clickbait. After 7 years managing various regions including Europe (+UK) for the past 3+ years. All good things must come to an end and now feels like the perfect time to turn the baton off a bit and take care of my family and myself first before looking for a new adventure later in the year.
When I started, we still had to convince artists to get their music out on our platform (even local rap stars), and the podcast was just starting out with its first exclusive podcast test in Germany. Now I can proudly say that we are the number one music and podcast platform in Europe, accounting for 38% of all Spotify subscribers and the largest region, while still growing faster than the market year after year.
My experience at Spotify includes being involved in launching the service in South Africa, the MENA region and Israel, as well as a successful launch and rollout in Russia. It also meant managing my team’s response to a global pandemic and two wars in the region.
It feels like a whole working life, and like I’m just getting started. 🤯
All achievements are only possible with the help of a great team and great partners – it has been a privilege to work with so many talented people over the years. But this isn’t a “goodbye and thanks post” yet, that will be posted after I’ve fully checked out.
I’m also very pleased that we have been able to fill my role internally and promote Federica, my Managing Director for Southern and Eastern Europe, to take over the leadership of Europe. Federica wishes you good luck in your work.
To underline the strong focus we place on our home market of Sweden, our global superstar CHRO Katarina has taken on the additional responsibility of General Manager Sweden. This is truly a dream team to run the continent.
I started an internal handover a while ago and will be on the network for another month in case you want to contact me at my Spotify address or need any introductions.
Hopefully talking to most of you before I transition. 💚global music business
