Aside from adding offensive lineman Tyler Guyton and seven other players in the first round, the Dallas Cowboys front office had what many called a quiet offseason.
However, the team’s football personnel decision-makers continue to work to determine whether the team can retain multiple key players long-term.
Three-time Pro Bowler Micah Parsons is widely considered one of the pillars of the Dallas defense. The 2021 first-round pick could end up receiving a historic salary if the Cowboys want to retain his services for the foreseeable future.

Parsons could become the highest-paid non-quarterback in NFL history, a distinction currently held by Minnesota Vikings star Justin Jefferson. Earlier this week, the wide receiver agreed to a historic $140 million contract with the Vikings, with $110 million guaranteed. ESPN reports.
While there’s currently no indication that Parsons is interested in changing jerseys anytime soon, it’s possible the star pass rusher could end up going elsewhere.

Parsons, who was born in Pennsylvania and played college football at Penn State, acknowledged that if he ultimately left the Cowboys, he would like to play in his hometown.
If Parsons “assumes he does come home later in his career, he will join the Pittsburgh Steelers,” according to the Fort Worth Star-Telegram.
Parsons’ considerations at least revolve around his respect for longtime Steelers coach Mike Tomlin.
If Parsons does somehow end up in Pittsburgh, he could end up playing alongside former NFL Defensive Player of the Year and six-time Pro Bowler TJ Watt.
Dak Prescott’s future with the Cowboys, on the other hand, remains up in the air after the 2024 season as he enters the final season of his contract with the team.
Prescott led the NFL with 36 touchdown passes and 4,516 passing yards last season, earning MVP votes. He led Dallas to the playoffs five times in eight seasons, but the Cowboys never reached the divisional round.

Dallas also must focus on re-signing CeeDee Lamb, who is entering the final year of his contract.
Parsons could become a free agent after the 2025 season. Parsons had 40.5 sacks during the regular season and finished the 2023 season with a career-high 14 sacks.
