White House Press Secretary Karine Jean-Pierre was asked by a reporter about Jill Biden’s travel plans during a press conference aboard Air Force One on Tuesday night as Joe traveled to France. Pierre said stiffly:
Q: Did you know? Is she going back to Wilmington for the third day of the trial?
Multiple sclerosis. Jean-Pierre: I would have to check with the first lady’s office regarding her travel. I just don’t – or – or her – yeah, her trip. I just have nothing to give you right now. so –

The New York Times report about Gill’s flight did not mention who paid for her trial-related travel expenses (excerpt):
First lady Jill Biden left President Joe Biden’s side in France on Thursday to return across the Atlantic to Delaware, where Hunter Biden is on trial on gun charges.
The first lady will return to France on Saturday for a state visit, according to Elizabeth Alexander, the first lady’s communications director.
The first lady is wrapping up a high-profile foreign trip in perhaps the most high-profile illustration yet of the Biden family’s personal priorities, which is based in Wilmington, about 3,600 miles from France. J. Caleb Boggs Federal Building 4A Courtroom.
Hunter Biden is on trial for lying about his drug use on a form to buy a gun in October 2018 and illegally possessing a weapon.
The boomerang journey also reflects the determination of the first lady, who is not a blood relative of Hunter Biden but is the woman who raised him from childhood. Over time, she became the pillar of support for her family.
“I’m his mother,” she said in a 2022 interview, when Hunter Biden was under federal investigation. “I mean, I have to support him and love him, and, you know, I’m constantly talking to him, texting him; ‘How are you?’ ‘Cause it’s hard.
Flying across the Atlantic is a testament to how difficult it can be.
On Friday, Fox News raised the question of who would pay for Gill’s frequent flights to participate in the trial:
