Recent polls show Trump and Biden currently tied in Virginia. This is big news because a Republican hasn’t won Virginia in a presidential race since 2004.
Biden won the state in 2020 and Hillary Clinton won it in 2016.
Will that change this year? Virginia Republican Gov. Glenn Younkin seems to think so.
Fox News:
Governor says Trump could become first Republican presidential candidate to win state in 20 years
It’s been two decades since Republicans won Virginia in the race for the White House.
You have to go back to then-President George W. Bush, who won the Commonwealth in his 2004 re-election victory.
Democrats have won four consecutive presidential elections in the state, including President Joe Biden’s 10-point victory over Donald Trump for the White House four years ago.
But Republican Gov. Glenn Youngkin believes the former president has a good chance of ending the Republican losing streak in Virginia as Trump faces off against Biden in a 2024 rematch this fall .
“Let’s first remember where we were in 2020 when Joe Biden won Virginia by 10 points, and the fact that we’re having this discussion is a huge ‘s turning point.
“We’re here in June and there’s still a lot of water to go under the bridge, but Virginia looks like it’s making a difference, which is very exciting,” Youngkin stressed.
Even Fox News polls, which for some reason always seem to lean left, have Trump tied with Biden in Virginia.

Virginia will be a state to watch on election night. If Trump is asked to do that, that could be the whole game.
