A Georgia Republican congressional candidate named Chuck Hand shocked the political world on Sunday when he refused to confront an establishment Republican lawmaker who allegedly plotted to attack his wife a week before the runoff. debate.
Hand, a construction director and a big fan of President Trump, is running against fellow Republican Wayne Johnson for the Republican primary nomination in Georgia’s 2nd Congressional District. Hand was also previously convicted of a false misdemeanor for “unlawful” demonstration at the U.S. Capitol on January 6, 2021, and was sentenced to 20 days in federal prison and six months of probation.
Johnson is a more moderate candidate who lives in Georgia’s 8th Congressional District, not the 2nd Congressional District.
During a debate hosted by the Atlanta Press Club, moderators asked Hand about the new farm bill currently being debated in Congress. Instead, Hand slowly unleashed a stunt on his carpetbagger opponents while portraying himself as the only one who represents the people of the 2nd District.
Then he stormed off the stage.
watch:
Hand: I’m Chuck Hand, a lifelong resident of Ward 2. Since 2018, I have been working side by side with the people of District 2 to solve problems.
I’ve only seen this guy come out during elections and want to run for office. I’m exhausted from years of traveling in Southwest Georgia meeting with constituents and building relationships in the community.
I’m not interested in debating District 2 issues with someone who doesn’t live in District 2. Especially a man who planned to attack my wife.
I care more about being Bishop Sanford and representing you in passing an America First agenda and returning Donald Trump to the White House. The game is very simple: it’s either District 8’s money or District 2’s heart (put your fist on your heart).
The choice is yours: dollars or change. Now, I get back in the truck and head back to Southwest Georgia because I still have two races to win.

According to the Associated Press, Hand answered reporters’ questions for nearly 20 minutes after exiting the debate. He said Johnson masterminded the attack on Michael Nixon, who was third in the race. Hand was particularly outraged by Nickerson’s callous reference to Hand’s wife’s long-ago conviction for illegally selling oxycodone.
After losing the election, Nixon supported Johnson and attacked Hand. He claimed at the press conference that Hand and his wife “came into this campaign with a serious criminal background and a record of financial irresponsibility.”
“It’s totally fine to attack me as a candidate. I hope so. But to come out and publicly attack my wife, that’s a completely different situation,” Hand explained. “My wife paid her debt to society long before I met her.”
The Hand-Johnson runoff is scheduled for June 18.
