In a brief statement, the president said:
As I said last week, I’m the president, but I’m also a father. Jill and I love our son and are proud of what he has accomplished today. Many families who have had a loved one struggle with addiction know the pride that comes with seeing a loved one come out of trouble and remain so strong and resilient in recovery.
As I said last week, I will accept the outcome of this case and continue to respect the judicial process while Hunt considers his appeal. Jill and I will always provide love and support to Hunter and the rest of our family. Nothing can change that.
President Biden is not doing what Trump did. He did not attack the courts or delegitimize the justice system. He accepted the sentence, although it was clearly mentally painful for him. Joe Biden did not abuse his power, exert political pressure or seek to end his son’s prosecution.
Joe Biden did all the right things, said all the right things, and set a great example for the country. President Biden understands his responsibility to preserve the institutions that are the backbone of our democracy.
Biden puts America first, even after his son’s conviction.
