The U.S. House of Representatives voted 216 to 207 to hold Attorney General Merrick Garland in contempt of Congress for failing to turn over a tape of an interview between Robert Hule and President Joe Biden.
Only one timid Republican sided with the Democrats; Rep. David Joyce From Ohio.
Barack Obama’s failed US Supreme Court nominee turned dirty Biden Attorney General Merrick Garland found in contempt of Congress for failing to turn over special counsel Tapes of Robert Hur interviewing Joe Biden.
After today’s vote, Fox News reported that Rep. Anna Paulina Luna, R-Fla., may force an “inherent contempt” vote to force the Army Sgt. Merrick Garland.
Aisha Hasni: Good night. Well, every Republican in the House voted for this act of defiance except one. Ohio Congressman David Joyce went against his party and voted against it. What’s next? That’s what everyone wants to know, because as far as contempt goes, it’s now up to the DoD EJs to decide whether they want to file charges and go after their bosses. They are unlikely to do so.
House Republicans know this, which is why Florida Congresswoman Anna Paulina Luna vowed she would work to force a vote on the inherent contempt. That’s different than what we saw tonight in the House. Inherent contempt basically means that if the bill passes, the House sergeant-at-arms will be forced to go and arrest Attorney General Merrick Garland because he is now in contempt.
She could use a privilege motion to put it to a vote in the next two legislative days, but we started following her after she voted on the House floor, and she hasn’t stayed to do so. She may still be trying to drum up support for the resolution. But now, on a historic day, the House of Representatives voted for the first time in a long time to hold a government official, the Attorney General, in contempt of court.
