The man accused of causing a crash in Arizona that killed three people in December 2022 has been indicted, the Maricopa County Prosecutor’s Office announced Thursday.
Brian Alexander Torres-Perez, 22, was killed in the crash that killed Pinal County Sheriff Mark Lamb’s 22-year-old son Cooper Charged with three counts of manslaughter, a second-degree felony.
Cooper’s fiancee, Caroline Patten, and their 11-month-old daughter were also killed in the crash.
Gilbert police said at the time that on December 16, 2022, Patten, who was driving, made a left turn at Elliott Road and Cole Avenue in Gilbert, Arizona, when Torres-Perez allegedly drove his Chevrolet Throttle. Rod crashed into his Toyota Corolla.
Cooper and his infant daughter were pronounced dead at the scene, while Patten died at a hospital nearly a week later, Gilbert police said.
“This defendant’s reckless disregard for life devastated an entire family,” said Maricopa County Prosecutor Rachel Mitchell. “After an extensive review of the evidence, it is time for Torres-Perez to serve his Act responsibly.”

Gilbert police presented the case to the Maricopa County Prosecutor’s Office in February 2023, saying speed, alcohol and other drugs were factors in the crash.
According to a later Gilbert police report, Torres-Perez was traveling about 70 mph, or 25 mph over the speed limit, when he crashed into the family’s car. A blood sample taken from Torres-Perez also showed a blood alcohol content of 0.03 and the presence of THC.

Torres-Perez is currently in custody of the Maricopa County Sheriff’s Office. He is being held on a $150,000 cash bond.
