Joe Scarborough noted on MSNBC’s “Morning Joe” that Democrats are taking back the word “liberty,” and that message is working with voters.
Scarborough said after showing a video of Biden talking about the rights pursued by Republicans and their conservative Supreme Court majority:
Democrats are taking back the word freedom. For years, the NRA has been pro-liberty, voting for Scarborough, pro-liberty, voting for whoever they think is right on the gun issue. Now the Democrats are talking about freedom, and I will tell you, I’ve seen some focus groups where the liberals are really coming to the point where the liberals are now saying, wait a minute, in their view, this government can do almost nothing right thing, why do we hand our bodies over to them to make decisions about health care? In this focus group, the person spoke in a swing state. So it’s about freedom, and you see freedom in women, and I think, for a lot of men, they see that if it can happen to the woman they love, it can happen to them.

If this election is about freedom, Republicans are in big trouble, because there has never been a presidential candidate in modern times (since 1980) more opposed to individual freedoms than Donald Trump. The former president opposed women’s right to control their own health care. He has enlisted the support of groups that want to ban IVF and birth control. Trump opposes transgender rights, and as president he has undermined gay rights. Trump even wants to deport immigrants who have legally earned rights in the United States.
Donald Trump is the enemy of democracy and freedom, and when Democrats say individual rights are on the ballot, they mean it. The good news for those who want to protect freedom and democracy is that the message appears to be spreading and working.
