Donald Trump’s presidential campaign has received $50m (£39.5m) from conservative billionaire Timothy Mellon, a federal filing showed on Thursday.
The Super-Pac fund called “MAGA Inc” disclosed to the Federal Election Commission that it received more than $68 million from donors last month.
Reuters reported that Mr. Mellon, the heir to the Pittsburgh-based Mellon banking family, donated $50 million. Another $10 million came from billionaires Liz Uihlein and Dick Uihlein.
US media reported that Mellon sent the donation the day after Trump was found guilty of 34 counts of falsifying business records in a hush money trial in New York.
Mr. Mellon is also the largest donor to independent presidential candidate Robert F. Kennedy Jr., giving at least $20 million to the American Values Super Pacific Alliance, which supports Kennedy.
Super PACs are independent “political action committees” that can raise unlimited amounts of money to support electoral candidates.
In recent weeks, Mellon’s donations have helped pro-Trump allies spend more on the campaign than allies of U.S. President Joe Biden.
Mr. Mellon, who lives in Wyoming and is rarely photographed, is an amateur pilot who has invested in and led transportation-related companies.
Forbes estimates the Mellon family is worth about $14.1 billion.
Meanwhile, Reuters reported that billionaire Mike Bloomberg has donated nearly $20 million to a pro-Biden super PAC.
Mr. Bloomberg’s donations include $19 million to an independent pro-Biden organization, Future Forward, or FF PAC.
Another $900,000 was donated to the Biden Victory Fund, a merger of the Biden campaign committee and the Democratic Committee.
The Biden campaign did not immediately respond to a request for comment.
On Thursday, the pro-Kennedy super PAC reported that it had received only about $280,000 last month, none of which came from Mr. Mellon.
