If you thought the battle for top brokers had died down in the face of big news like commission lawsuits, well, guess again: Coldwell Banker just nabbed one of the top-performing brokers in California wine country.
Rob Sullivan has joined the venerable brand from Vanguard Properties and will work out of Coldwell Banker’s office in Petaluma, Sonoma County, according to a statement from the company. The statement described Sullivan as “a consistently top-performing agent” who “has completed more than $250 million in real estate sales across 265 transactions.”
Sonoma County is the heart of California wine country.
The statement noted that before joining Vanguard, Sullivan served at Coldwell Banker from 2014 to 2019. That means he’s not only a big hit with Coldwell Banker, but he’s sometimes called a “boomerang agent,” or someone who leaves a brand and later comes back. Over the past few years, as the market has slowed and brokerage firms have focused more on top performers with proven track records, Boomerang Brokers has become one of the most notable new entrants.
Coldwell Banker made a point of celebrating its boomerang agents amid heightened agency competition. The competition dominated headlines in 2023 and early 2024, but was later overshadowed by news of an agency commission antitrust lawsuit. However, even as other news reports continue to emerge, the so-called “recruitment war” is not over – as Sullivan’s jump to Coldwell Bankers demonstrates.
Sullivan, for his part, is optimistic about joining Coldwell Banker, saying in a statement that he has “laid a foundation here and I look forward to providing my clients with access to the firm’s global network.”
“Relationships are at the heart of real estate, and I know returning to the Coldwell Banker family will only enrich my business and client development,” he added.
Company executives also expressed praise for Sullivan.
“Rob is a highly regarded agent in Sonoma County, and we are pleased that he has chosen to come back and join the Petaluma office,” Coldwell Banker regional president Jennifer Lind said in a statement. “Coldwell Banker’s impact, The global footprint and strong local leadership, combined with the exceptional service Rob provides to his clients, create the perfect partnership, one that we are proud to continue.”
