Three people are missing after floods swept through the town of Misaux in the alpine valley of Graubünden in southeastern Switzerland.
A massive thunderstorm on Friday night caused a river to burst its banks, flooding streets and prompting the evacuation of dozens of residents from their homes, local authorities said.
Further west, the Alpine resort of Zermatt has been isolated by floodwaters.
The town is located at the foot of the iconic Matterhorn mountain, and footage showed flooding ravaging streets on Friday.
Train services between Visp and Zermatt have been suspended and the road between Täsch and Zermatt has been closed, making the resort completely impassable.
Authorities are bracing for some overflows, restricting public access to the banks of the Rhone and its tributaries from Friday.
The cantonal government of Graubünden said it was “paying close attention” to the situation and expressed its gratitude to local emergency services.
