A brush fire at Talbot Regional Park in Costa Mesa on Sunday afternoon scorched about eight acres and prompted a voluntary evacuation due to thick smoke, officials said.
Two minors were injured, but their injuries were not serious, said Costa Mesa Fire Rescue Battalion Chief Chris Coates. Details of the fire at the Orange County Park located in the 1200 block of Victoria Street have not yet been released.
No buildings were damaged, Coates said, but authorities advised residents on Swan Avenue to evacuate and advised others in the neighborhood to stay indoors because of the smoke. The Balearic Community Center at 1975 Balearic Drive has been designated as an evacuation center.
“We are not forcing anyone to leave at this time,” Coates said. “We are making good progress fighting the fire.”
Three dripping helicopters buzzed above the flames. Three other Orange County fires join the crossfire
department.
Coates said the fire started around 1 p.m. unknown reason.
