Sheriff Recklin and his family
An Oakland County, Michigan, deputy was murdered in cold blood Saturday night while tracking a stolen vehicle.
Deputy Bradley Reckling was pursuing a stolen vehicle with the assistance of two detectives, according to Oakland County Sheriff Michael Bouchard.
The vehicle, a stolen 2022 Chevrolet Equinox, was stopped unexpectedly. The suspect got out of the car and began shooting at Officer Recklin, who was shot in the chest and head. The detectives were each in their own vehicles and were not hit.

An Oakland County deputy was killed while recovering a stolen vehicle in Detroit in what Sheriff Michael Bouchard said was an ambush.
According to Bouchard, Auto Theft Unit Deputy Bradley Reckling and two other detectives were searching for a stolen 2022 Chevrolet Equinox Saturday night after reports that the vehicle was stolen earlier in the day at Red Oaks in Madison Heights. The water park was stolen.
Reckling was behind a stolen Equinox in the area of Schoenherr and Park Grove streets on Detroit’s east side around 10:50 p.m. when the vehicle suddenly stopped and people got out. The suspect began shooting, hitting Recklin in the head and chest. Two other detectives who were driving their own vehicles nearby were not hit.

Detroit police and Michigan State Police quickly responded to the area and set up a perimeter, the chief said. Fox 2 in Detroit reported that three suspects were in custody.

Deputy Recklin has been with the police force for nine years. Unfortunately, he left behind three children, ages 5, 4, and 1, and his wife was about to give birth to another child.
