The Biden campaign believes that six swing states will decide the 2024 presidential election and is targeting victory in each state this fall.
The following is a transcript of the exchange between Parker’s John Heilemann and Biden campaign chairwoman Jen O’Malley Dillon:
Jiehe: I’ve heard people in your world talk about how 6% of voters in six states will decide this election. A reminder to non-junkies: Michigan, Wisconsin, Pennsylvania, Nevada, Arizona and Georgia are the six states we’re talking about — undeniable battleground states. We can discuss whether you would like to include North Carolina.
Joad: Oh, we’ll have a discussion.
Jiehe: Okay, but now let’s focus on the concept of 6% in six states. Is this how you see persuadable voters in 2024 — undecided voters, hopeful voters, whatever you want to call them?
Joad: Here’s how I approach it. We have multiple paths to victory. We can talk about the states. There are a lot of people who have been with us before, people that we see the president fight for every day, but they are not involved in this campaign. So they’re a persuasive group of voters that we need to reach out to make sure they know what’s at stake and that they’re going to vote.
[Then there are] Those who are actually on the edge and undecided, [and among them] We have a whole new group of people since 2020 but we can’t reach them [then] We see a post-Dobbs vote in 2022. They are the ones who protested against Donald Trump in primary after primary on the Republican side.
I definitely think they are available. Are a handful of states and a handful of voters ultimately on the margins? Yes. But our programs and events are designed to serve a broader strategy, designed to encompass all of us and truly engage them.
Early involvement in Biden campaign strategy
The Biden campaign has opened hundreds of field offices and hired thousands of staff in battleground states as it earlier aggressively courted potential supporters. One flaw that Donald Trump may not be able to remedy is his poor performance in the 2024 campaign. Trump seems confident that his voters will show up on their own because he has turned his operations over to outside conservative groups.
The Biden campaign has zeroed in on six states that will decide the election. Trump wasted his time campaigning in places like New York, New Jersey, Virginia, and cities like Detroit and Philadelphia, where he had few votes, while Biden was operating in those states.
Elections are not won through media polls. They were won through voter contact, and the Biden campaign is confident of its victory as it works to reach the voters who will determine the outcome of the presidential election.
