A Riverside County Sheriff’s Department deputy was arrested and booked Saturday on suspicion of sexually assaulting a volunteer with the department, authorities said.
Alexander Vanny, 33, was arrested Friday after reporting a sexual assault to an officer, according to the Sheriff’s Department.
The deputy reported the allegation to a supervisor, which sparked an investigation, according to the department.
The department said they discovered evidence of a sexual assault, leading to Vanney’s arrest.
“The Riverside County Sheriff’s Office condemns any form of misconduct that occurs by its officers while on or off duty and is firmly committed to deterring and preventing such conduct,” the department said in a news release.
Vanny is an eight-year veteran of the Sheriff’s Department, most recently serving at the Hemet Sheriff’s Station.
He was held on $1 million bail and booked on suspicion of kidnapping, rape, forcible rape and forced oral copulation. Records show Vanney was released Sunday.
