New polling shows abortion is the top issue for voters in 67 House districts.
The Democratic Congressional Campaign Committee provided PoliticusUSA with a new polling memo on abortion that found:
Digging deeper into how abortion rights will impact the House majority race, a recent DCCC battleground poll of 67 congressional districts* shows that this issue is more likely to drive voter choice than any other: 36% of voters will not vote for candidates if Congress disagrees with them on abortion rights.
Opposition to abortion remains the top “deal-breaker” issue among voters, and House Democrats continue to have a trust advantage in protecting voters’ reproductive freedoms. When hearing opposition to abortion rights, which Democrats won by a 10-point margin, voters said they were more likely to support Democrats. Notably, independent voters said they were 14 points more likely to support Democrats after hearing the same argument.
Those in the media and in the Republican Party who claim abortion is irrelevant or not a priority for voters are wrong. Over the past two years, voters have repeatedly shown that abortion rights motivate them to show up to the polls. For many voters, reproductive freedom is the only issue that matters.
On the second anniversary of the Dobbs decision, Republicans can continue to pretend they can find a way to strategize around abortion, but there are signs that if they continue to hold positions that are inconsistent with nearly 70 percent of voters in the country, they Voters will pay a heavy price.
