Logitech has announced the launch of a new thin gaming keyboard, the G515 Lightspeed TKL Wireless, which features upgraded thin switches and is now compatible with Cherry MX style keycaps, making the keyboard more customizable.
The G515 is a welcome upgrade to Logitech’s G915 Lightspeed Wireless Keyboard, which debuted in 2019. This product not only completely cancels the digital keyboard of the G915, but also cancels the wide volume wheel above.
Saying goodbye to the physical volume wheel, the G515 keyboard will be available today for $139, making it significantly cheaper than the $249.99 G915 and the smaller $229.99 G915 TKL. that is not quite It’s just as cheap as the $104 Keychron K1 Max QMK Wireless Slim Keyboard , which offers many similar features, but for those looking for a more affordable entry point, a wired-only version of the new G515 is also in the works and expected this year It will be priced at $99 when it becomes available later.
The new G515 continues to use the company’s low-profile GL mechanical switches. When they debuted on the G915 about five years ago, they were revealed to be tweaked versions of the Choc V1 low-profile switches, which made them difficult to customize and replace on the stock keys. in the hat.
For the G515, Logitech has introduced an updated design for its GL mechanical switches, using “polyoxymethylene (POM), cross-shaped rods” to make the keyboard compatible with low-profile Cherry MX-style keycaps. We’ve reached out to Logitech to confirm whether the new G515 uses Kailh’s Choc V2 low-profile switches, which have the same 1.3mm actuation distance as Logitech’s updated GL switches, or if they are custom-made proprietary versions.
Unlike the G915 Lightspeed wireless keyboard, which provides users with three switch types (linear, tactile, and click), the new G515 only offers quieter tactile and linear options, with actuation forces of 45g and 43g respectively. It’s also available in white or black finishes with matching two-tone PBT keycaps, each with independent RGB lighting, support for 16.8 million colors, and customizable through the Logitech G HUB app.
The G515 supports three different ways to connect to a computer or other device: Bluetooth, USB-C, or the company’s proprietary 2.4GHz Lightspeed technology. Choosing the latter provides a more reliable connection and improved wireless performance. While it does require the use of the included USB dongle, only one can be used to connect two Logitech Lightspeed devices, potentially freeing up USB ports.
When using the keyboard wirelessly via the Lightspeed adapter, battery life is rated up to 625 hours with RGB lighting turned off. When the RGB lighting is set to 50% brightness, the battery life is reduced to 120 hours; when the brightness is set to 100%, the battery life is only 36 hours – for those who want to watch a bright light show under their fingers Said it was a major blow.
