Comedian Bill Maher criticized the left in a recent interview and said liberal woke thinking contributed to former President Trump’s popularity.
On Sunday, reporter Tina Brown asked Maher about the former president’s supporters, who she likened to a cult, and Trump’s overall popularity in the wake of the Jan. 6 riots degree.
“I mean, the left has to admit some of this. They’re deeply counterintuitive. The Democrats continue to cling to this idea and say to the American people, ‘You can’t possibly think you can do worse than Donald Trump.’ They keep Say, “Yes, we can.”
The HBO host said his friends have complained to him about their 20-something kids being “super sober,” adding, “They’re driving their parents crazy.”
Bill Maher explains: “Why is it okay for the left to hate Jews?”
“‘You don’t understand, Mom. That’s an old idea.’ I thought, ‘What don’t you understand? It’s always been a social idea to have penises in women’s prisons. No, it’s not that I’m old, it’s that your idea is stupid.
Maher, an outspoken critic of the former president, said conservatives told him, “What you don’t understand about Trump is we don’t like him either.”
“They just hate other things more,” Brown added.
“I don’t blame them because a lot of it is closer to home. As much as you hate Trump’s democracy, I understand why that’s the biggest problem. But for a lot of people, it’s a little blurry. Ukraine is far away. It’s far away, but you know, things about family and race and gender, they’re very close to home,” Maher said.

Maher said Thursday’s CNN presidential debate will be “less interesting than we thought.”
“First of all, Biden, we’re just looking for evidence of life,” he said. “He benefits from low expectations.”
Maher also expressed optimism about Biden, saying he can “do the job,” but he can’t “run for the job.”

“Trump is Trump and I think we’re going to leave and no one’s mind is going to change,” he said.
Maher said in May that Biden was only pushing for a debate with Trump because he “lost.”
“Well, I think Biden is the one who has the most to prove,” Maher said. “Trump is a known commodity. They know he’s going to be a… He’s going to lurk and rant and not follow the rules and everything else. But Biden, they want to see evidence of life.”
