AT&T announced Next Up Anytime, a new early upgrade program for AT&T installment plan customers that will be available starting July 16th. At $10 a month, it’s more expensive than AT&T’s existing $6-a-month Next Up add-on service, but users can upgrade their smartphones in just one installment, up to three times a year.
With AT&T’s older $6-a-month Next Up add-on, customers can immediately trade in and upgrade their devices in monthly installments or a one-time payment after paying off half the cost.
The new Next Up Anytime add-on now allows customers to trade in and upgrade their device after paying off 33% of the cost. For AT&T’s 36-month installment plan, this means customers can upgrade after the first year and still take advantage of discounts through upgrade promotions.
For those who want to buy a new smartphone more frequently, Next Up Anytime also allows customers to “immediately upgrade after installments and the first Next Up Anytime payment.” However, customers who choose this method will not be eligible for the upgrade promotion – they will pay full price for the new device – and will be limited to three upgrades per year.
