The following is an editorial by Sarah Jones.
If you’re worried about the state of democracy during a potential Trump reelection, last night may have been unsettling for you. Last night, President Joe Biden took the stage to confront a notorious troll who, like all of Trump’s previous opponents, came up short.
Biden entered the debate with a cold, so his voice was low at first and difficult to hear at times.
He repeatedly gave up his time and let Trump dominate the discussion.
Biden battles stuttering. His aloofness and curt answers were obstacles he couldn’t consistently overcome, despite his stellar performance on “Roy,” Answers on January 6, and Donald J. Trump’s historic reputation, most recently in the legal system He was found responsible for rape, being a liar, and of course the 34 felonies he committed and counting.
One of President Biden’s best moments came when he called Trump a whiner because he wouldn’t accept his huge losses in 2020: “I doubt you’re going to accept that because you’re a whiner. People. The idea is that if you lose again, you accept anything. When you lost last time, you were a little bit broken inside.
The president’s worst moments came when his stutter and cold seemed to derail him while he struggled to protect Medicare (Republican lies about his billions of dollars in cuts to Medicare have been debunked by experts), and laid out a plan to permanently extend Medicare solvency, his words jumbled, concluding: “We finally defeated Medicare.”
You’ll hear this quote repeated by conservatives over the next decade, but that doesn’t mean it’s accurate. It’s actually disturbing that this line will be used as a cudgel by those whose policies seek to undermine Medicare and Medicaid benefits. Policy advisers to Trump’s Plan 2025* have made it clear that if Trump is re-elected as president, he will eliminate Medicaid and raise drug prices for people with Medicare.
But Biden did several key things that Trump was unable or unwilling to do; Biden talked about his own policies to help the American people, and he tried valiantly to remain honest even as Trump attacked his son, Hunter Biden At the same time, he also adhered to democratic principles and norms.
These things should be rewarded, but some legacy media outlets are ready to make Joe Biden’s age an issue in this election, and as a result, they’re not focusing on whether Joe Biden’s character is still a wannabe The fact that a decent person helps others.
Biden isn’t at his best, but it’s unfair to expect any candidate to fact-check Gish Galloping’s notorious liar in a debate — even one that never tries to focus on his policy ideas on stage Verifiers can do this too Trump has managed his entire political career.
Why? Because Trump is this question.
Trump used lies and slander on stage to cover up his refusal to discuss policy. Policies will make a real difference in voters’ lives, and they deserve to hear them from candidates.
But instead, Trump boasted about his responsibility for overturning Roe and then evaded responsibility, claiming that everyone can follow their heart.
This quote should not go unnoticed, as Trump used the word “heart” at least twice during this debate, an age-old political tactic of avoiding accountability for actions by invoking the mythical “heart.” Think of it like a murderer (or in this case a convicted criminal) saying in court, “I have a good heart.” It makes no sense, but is meant to distract from and excuse harmful behavior. This is a get-out-of-jail-free card for cheaters.
Plan 2025 also lays out plans to deprive women of their liberty nationwide, using the Comstock Act to “ban the mailing of medications used for medical abortion, instruments and equipment used for surgical abortion, and even the mailing of information about abortion.” message”.
So it’s worth noting that Trump’s lie about Roe said “everyone wants to take it back to the states…everyone, no exceptions, Democrats, Republicans, liberals, conservatives.” Trump then said Claims that he believes in exceptions to rape, incest, and the life of the mother, and tells people to “follow your heart,” as if women in states that ban abortion can simply follow their “heart” whether they want to live or not and are medically torture.
Perhaps what everyone in the media should agree on is that Trump’s refusal to accept the results of the last election and his actions in inciting attempted insurrection are more problematic than anything Joe Biden has done.
When asked twice whether he would accept the election results, Trump began to reveal some of his most harmful character traits—perpetual persecution, delusions, and stunning immaturity. He could only agree to accept the result “if it was a fair, legal and good election”. Oh, okay, but 2020 was the most secure election in modern history, and Trump refuses to accept that, so he continues to lie about the 2020 election, “but the fraud and everything else is ridiculous.”
Well last night…Biden was hamstrung by reality; Trump could lie so freely that he blamed 1/6 on Nancy Pelosi and the Capitol Police.
It’s not Biden’s fault, and it’s not CNN’s fault.
Haven’t we had enough of blaming Trump’s actions on his victims? Trump is not fit to be president. In fact, his performance on the debate stage is entirely the fault of the Republican Party, whose standards are now at the wettest level of hell along with their so-called “conservative principles.”
President Biden needs to reassure voters, and he gets it with another State of the Union-style performance, but none of us should lose sight of the fact that Donald Trump lost swing voters in a focus group last night interested. When you feel sick at the thought of watching this debate, you’re not alone in that feeling; Many more Americans have this than you might think.
If we use last night as a litmus test to see which of these men can show us they can be president, only one will hold up — even if he underperforms. That person is Joe Biden. Like many incumbents before him, Biden had a bad debate. But bad debates are not caused by bad presidents.
Biden elaborated on this for himself on Friday, admitting that his debates weren’t as good as before:
Biden spoke honestly to Americans about his debate performance, “I’m not as good at debates as I used to be, but I know what I know, how to tell the truth. I know right from wrong. I know how to get things done.” When you When you get knocked down, you get back up. pic.twitter.com/DcfaL0TUi0

This president shows us every day in his priorities that he is running this country with the expertise that only age and experience can bring.
