No one asked Nikki Haley to come out of hiding to express her thoughts on Biden’s disastrous presidential debates and implicitly attack Trump, but here we are.
The disgraced former Republican presidential candidate talks to The New York Times wall street journal Saturday. She told the outlet she watched the debate with her husband and some friends at her home in South Carolina and found Biden’s performance shocking.
“I think this is shocking to a lot of people,” Haley said. “What we’re seeing is that Trump is powerful, but I don’t even think it matters because Biden is so unfit. He’s lost his train of thought and can’t grasp what he needs to talk about.
She then issued a warning to President Trump and other Republicans that Democrats would take the smart path of replacing Joe Biden with a younger, more dynamic candidate.
In her view, this doesn’t necessarily help Trump.
“They’re going to be smart: they’re going to bring younger people, they’re going to bring dynamic people, they’re going to bring proven people,” Haley warned. “Now is the time for Republicans to prepare for what’s coming, because if they allow Joe Biden to remain their candidate, there’s no way the Democrats will survive.”
Haley also reiterated her favorite issue, requiring older presidential candidates to take cognitive assessment tests. The Wall Street Journal noted that in February 2023, she called for “mandatory mental competency testing for politicians over the age of 75.” This directly affected Trump and Biden because they were 76 and 80 years old respectively at the time.
Haley said during the Republican presidential primaries that Trump was experiencing a mental “decline.” To prove her point, she claimed Trump confused her with former House Speaker Nancy Pelosi.
Doctors can administer the tests, and candidates for federal office should voluntarily share them, she explained to the Journal.
“Washington is full of seniors, and voters need to know who can rise to the challenge and who can’t,” she said.
While Haley said she would vote for Trump over Biden, inferring that he would have a harder time with a younger candidate while saying he should be forced to take cognitive tests does raise questions about whether she has something up her sleeve .
