House Speaker Nancy Pelosi (D-CA) said the Supreme Court’s ruling in Trump v. United States puts the court itself on trial.
“Today’s Supreme Court ruling is a rogue act and violates the fundamental American principle that no one is above the law.
“The former president’s claim to full presidential immunity is an affront to our founder’s vision of declaring independence from the King. A gravely dangerous aspect of the ruling is that it deems official conduct inadmissible in the context of a trial for unofficial conduct . As the case dragged on, the 6-3 Republican-appointed court gave the defendants a political gift.
“This decision by the Supreme Court puts itself on trial – further diminishing its credibility in the eyes of all who believe in the rule of law.”
The former Speaker was the target of Donald Trump’s attempted coup at the U.S. Capitol on January 6, 2021, and her husband was brutally attacked in his home by people radicalized by Trump/right-wing lies. If anyone has the ability to combine personal knowledge with expertise to warn us of all the risks, it’s Nancy Pelosi.
