Patrick J. Vernon. is Lecturer in Gender and War Studies in the Department of War Studies at King’s College London. Their research examines the role of gender, sexuality, and racialized representations in security discourses and practices. They are particularly interested in the study of political violence from micro to global levels, on topics including online abuse, hostile media representations of minority groups, border behavior, genocide and humanitarian intervention. In addition to his academic practice, Patrick has a creative freelance practice focusing on engagement with minority communities. Patrick served on the steering group for Barb’s Healing Garden, co-planned and executive produced Immersive Experiences: Celebrating Community and Belonging Mosley Road Baths, and help deliver the keys to city and public trust. Patrick’s current book, the coloniality of humanitarian intervention, Examining the practice of humanitarian intervention, it explores the extent to which racist and heterosexist norms rooted in colonial understandings of time and space manifested themselves through British responses, failed responses and non-responses to atrocity crimes.
