The White House has strongly refuted a New York Times report that President Biden is considering withdrawing.
White House adviser Andrew Bates responded to the New York Times report:
This statement is absolutely wrong. If The New York Times gives us more than seven minutes to comment, we will tell them. https://t.co/SRTYIVTY7v

After the debate, Biden likely had a variety of conversations with allies. He may have been asking many people close to him what he should do.
Biden’s pick isn’t just for the presidential race after the Supreme Court’s immunity ruling. With democracy at stake, the president must weigh how to overcome the fallout from the debate and protect the country so that the United States remains a democracy on Inauguration Day 2025.
The reality is that if Biden resigns as the nominee (which still strikes me as an act of self-destructive suicide), Vice President Harris almost has to be the nominee. The only thing stupider than forcing Biden out of office is forcing Biden out of office and holding a publicly chaotic convention.
Joe Biden isn’t going anywhere unless something serious goes wrong next week, and if so, people will know a lot about the Times’ agenda.
