A brush fire broke out in northern Simi Valley Wednesday afternoon, threatening numerous homes before firefighters extinguished the blaze.
About 200 firefighters battled the Sharp Fire in a sweltering heat wave that was expected to continue for several days.
Ventura County Fire Department Public Information Officer Andrew Dowd said the fire was reported on the hill near Ditch Road near Sharp Road at 1:47 p.m. A firefighter was hospitalized Wednesday with minor injuries due to heat exhaustion, Dodd said.
The fire, which covers 133 acres, burned grass and moderate to light brush, he said. As of Wednesday evening, firefighters had increased containment to 15%.
About 60 homes along Ditch Road were ordered to evacuate, and a temporary evacuation point was set up at the Rancho Santa Susana Community Center. By approximately 6:15 p.m., all evacuation orders and warnings had been lifted and evacuation points were deactivated.
Authorities are asking the public to continue to avoid the area so crews can work.
