A 12-year-old girl was killed and nine others injured in a multi-vehicle crash Friday night in South Los Angeles, authorities said.
A spokesman for the Los Angeles Police Department said that around 6 p.m., Los Angeles police responded to the area of East Century Avenue and Avalon Avenue where a driver attempted to make a U-turn and two other vehicles were involved in a crash.
The spokesman said police believe the 12-year-old girl, who was not wearing a seat belt, was ejected and died at the scene.
According to the Los Angeles Fire Department, one of the drivers was trapped in the car after the crash and was rescued by firefighters. She was taken to a hospital in serious condition but is expected to survive, authorities said.
Eight other people – five adults and three children – were injured and taken to hospital with fair to moderate injuries. Their injuries are not expected to be life-threatening, a spokesman for the Los Angeles Police Department said.
