Did your recent Amazon purchase not quite meet your expectations? If you’re looking to return items, you might be surprised to learn that online retailers now charge a $1 fee to return certain packages to UPS. Fortunately, Amazon still offers many ways Free returns.
In most cases, the process is very simple. All you need to do is pick up the Amazon product you want to send back and head to the nearest drop-off location. If you don’t have a box for your item, don’t worry: You can still bring your item to one of these locations to have it packed and shipped for free.

Return package to Kohl’s or Staples
If you live near a Kohl’s or Staples store, Amazon returns are easy. When you begin the Amazon return process, select Cole’s drop off or Staples dropped as your first choice. Amazon will send you a QR code that you need to bring with you to the store (you can also show a picture of the QR code on your phone).
Once you give your return to a Kohl’s or Staples employee and show the QR code, they will pack, label and ship your item for free. Or even better? Sometimes the store will give you a coupon when you return an item there.
Whole Foods Market also accepts Amazon returns
You can also choose Whole Foods Market as a drop-off location for Amazon returns. Please note that if your preferred store is not listed, your item or location may not be eligible. In addition, only some stores offer boxless returns.
Once you make your selection, Amazon will email you a QR code for Whole Foods employees to scan. Grab it and the item you need to return and head to the Whole Foods customer service desk or returns kiosk. From there, an employee will pick up and ship your package.
Deliver your items to a UPS store
You can also take your return to a UPS store. When choosing how to return an item purchased on Amazon, select UPS Store Delivery Service. You don’t need to box or label items. Instead, the UPS Store will pack, label and ship your return for free. UPS will email you a return shipping code in advance, which you will need to show the employee. Please note that if you choose UPS but another delivery location is closer, Amazon may charge a $1 fee.
Let UPS pick up your package
If your items qualify for UPS pickup, you don’t even have to leave your home. When you start the return process on Amazon, follow the return prompts and select UPS pickup.
In this case, you will need to pack the items for return. However, UPS will provide a return label. UPS will pick up your package the next business day, but you or another adult must be present. Please note that Amazon may charge you a fee for this return option.
Go to Amazon store
If you live nearby Amazon store — Amazon Fresh or Amazon Go — where you can return items. (Please note that with Amazon closes some physical storesfinding a location can be more challenging. Amazon will send you a QR code to show to Amazon store associates. You need to place the item in its original manufacturer’s packaging. If you return an item to an Amazon Fresh Pickup or Amazon Hub Locker location, you will need to put it in a box or box it using the materials provided.

DoorDash is testing a feature where you can ask a Dasher to pick up your items and deliver them to a UPS, FedEx or USPS location. However, your item must be packaged and sealed with a prepaid return label. Each package must weigh no more than 30 pounds and have a value of no more than $500. The company hasn’t revealed when this option will become widely available. Currently, it is only available in selected regions.
