According to Google, the speedometer in the app “shows how fast you’re traveling on the road,” while speed limit alerts will show drivers if they’re going too fast.

The introduction of speedometer and speed limits on the iPhone came years after Android started using the feature. Android users first used this tool in 2019.

TechCrunch first reported that the same functionality will appear when users start using Google Maps navigation on their iPhone.
Users can now turn on the speed limit indicator by going into the Google Maps app and finding Settings, going to Navigation and selecting Driving Options. If the feature is enabled, the speed indicator will change color to remind drivers to stay within the speed limit within the designated zone.
