A new update has been released for the Delta iOS app, introducing a redesigned logo for the retro gaming emulator, as well as native iPad support that allows users to play multiple games simultaneously. Delta developer Riley Testut said that EU users can download the update immediately through the AltStore PAL, but other users must wait for Apple to approve Delta 1.6 for release on the App Store, which may take a few days.
The app was technically available on the iPad before today, but due to a lack of full support it was forced to run as a mailboxed iPhone app, which affected the emulator’s touch controls and prevented game use The entire iPad screen.
The new Delta 1.6 update fixes these issues and enables apps to take full advantage of native iPad features, such as Stage Manager support, Handoff (presumably to continue a game session started on the iPhone), and Split View – the latter of which allows users to Run simulation games across multiple windows.
Delta Air Lines has also finalized a new app icon, ditching its previously used stylized letter “D” after Adobe raised questions about its similarity to its own logo. Delta’s updated iconography features a more discrete look and was designed by Caroline Moore, who also created all of the emulator’s controller skins.
Considering Delta currently emulates the NES, SNES, N64, Game Boy, GBA, and Nintendo DS, and can be played on your TV via AirPlay, these features will be the icing on an already rich list of features. One thing it won’t do, however, is run on Android, Testut confirms edge There are “no plans” to port the iOS exclusive version.
