This week’s episode acolyte Take us back to the planet Brundock to learn the truth about what happened that night when Osha and Mae’s lives changed forever. In doing so, it brings out more of the mystery shrouded in darkness – not just that of all the characters involved in these events, but also the nature of the power at hand. For series architect Leslye Headland, it’s a fine balance, both in terms of what is communicated to the audience and how it connects to the wider Star Wars legend.
The penultimate episode of “Choice” acolyte, back in time to the night the coven was burned down. It reveals that the four Jedi—Thor, Indala, Tobin, and Kaelnaka—are stationed on this world not because they know the coven exists, but because of Brundock itself It’s where the Force “comes together.” This phrase was first used in Star Wars When Qui-Gon Jinn describes his discovery of Anakin Skywalker The Phantom Menace. exist acolyte Brundock’s convergence is explained to the audience (Indara explains to her apprentice Tobin) as a “concentration of Force energy,” a force powerful enough to manifest life itself. but different from The Phantom MenaceQui-Gon describes Anakin himself as a Convergent, acolytethe Convergence was formed at some obscure location on Brundock, rather than an individual…or, as we’ve come to realize, the mysterious force that helped create Osha and May in the first place.
“This is very important to me, [Lucasfilm Chief Creative Officer] Dave Filoni, and [Lucasfilm story group creative] Pablo Hidalgo, that [Osha and Mae] Not a gathering point. These girls are not of the Force per se,” Headland explained in a recent interview with Nerdist. “Regardless of how they got here…the act of creating them needed to be amplified, so we ultimately decided that the focus would be on Brundock, and that it would remain mysterious. That way, if we ever return there in future storytelling , we can find out more about what is actually going on there. Importantly, this type of gathering is natural and not internal to humans or aliens.
It is this apparent differentiation of Headland that has also become part of the wider discussion surrounding this issue. acolyte Earlier in the season, episode three – another flashback with Brundock – teased the nature of Osha and May’s conception, as it was almost similar to how Anakin was born as the Jedi Chosen part of the prophecy. “The girls are all guinea pigs. They have zero patience for this power. It doesn’t work perfectly. So the girls themselves can never be as powerful as Anakin,” Headland explained. “Their full potential has yet to be explored. They’ve been apart for too long. It’s like you’re doing an experiment and this is the first round. They may not be the first, but they are the first to use this particular power. An experiment.
“So the twins are definitely weaker than Anakin. They will fall short of their goal of ultimately becoming the Chosen One. They will never achieve that goal because, in my opinion, Anakin can only do so much,” Black Deran continued. “She wasn’t powerful enough to create a human being. The twins were divided, Anisea’s power was divided, and so a lot of her philosophy was about the power of two people. About the fact that they had to stay together.
But for Headland, acolyte The situation of Osha and May is also further differentiated by combining multiple spiritual methods in the creation: this amplification of “gathering and dispersion”, the Force itself, and a separate magic – which we have already seen in Star Wars Through cultures like the Nightsisters of Dathomir. “The Nightsisters exclusively use magic. For my witches, it’s a bit of a mix. They definitely dabble in the Force and call it by different names. They’re trying to develop a sensitivity to it without going through Jedi training,” Black Deland added. “[The witches]… Not only did they take advantage of any physical gathering point on Earth, they also took advantage of solar eclipses. These powerful movements of celestial and subterranean objects, and whatnot, the point here is that they draw their power from nature, magic, and the Force. So we never say, ‘They use magic like the Nightsisters. Even if they’re not Jedi, they’re using the Force.
“It’s more interesting to me to show a group of people, a group of witches, with abilities that the Jedi can’t pinpoint. They’re definitely not going to say, ‘Oh, well, that’s magic. Oh, well, that’s the Force. ,” Headland concluded. “That’s one of the reasons they’re so confused by what they’re seeing. It’s so unpredictable, it’s hard for them to sort through and report back to the council.
