Cryptocurrency prices rose after former President Trump was shot and killed while speaking at a campaign rally in western Pennsylvania on Saturday night.
Bitcoin (BTC-USD) briefly fell to around $58,448 at 6:15 PM ET before rising 2.4% to $59,909 over the next few years Hour.
The Solana meme coin TRUMP more than doubled in value following news reports about the incident. MAGA token surged 30%.
After shots rang out at a rally in Butler, Pa., Trump was removed from the podium by the Secret Service, bleeding around his ears. Trump later posted on his social media platform Truth Social that he was “shot by a bullet that pierced the upper part of my right ear.”
Law enforcement officials said the shooting is being investigated as an assassination attempt. A Secret Service spokesman said one rally participant was killed in the shooting and the suspected shooter was killed by the Secret Service.
