Virginia State Police said one person was killed and six others were injured when a pickup truck collided with the horse-drawn carriage they were riding in.
The crash occurred around 7 p.m. Sunday in the 2700 block of Cumberland Road in the Farmville area of Cumberland County, police said in a news release. The area is about 50 miles west of Richmond.

Seven people were on the SUV at the time of the accident. One of them died at the scene and six others were taken to hospital with serious, life-threatening injuries, police said. The driver of the pickup truck was not injured.
Police said the accident is under investigation.
