In his official announcement announcing Sen. J.D. Vance as his running mate, Trump expressed an almost delusional belief that Vance would help him in the key swing states of Michigan, Pennsylvania and Wisconsin.
Trump posted on the Truth Community website:
After long deliberation and reflection, and taking into account the tremendous talents of many others, I have decided that the person most qualified to hold the office of Vice President of the United States is Ohio Senator J.D. Vance. JD served our country honorably in the Marine Corps, graduated magna cum laude from The Ohio State University two years later, is a graduate of Yale Law School, served as editor of the Yale Law Journal and as a Yale Law Veteran Association President. JD’s book “Hillbilly Elegy” became a major bestseller and movie because it championed the hardworking men and women of our country. JD has had a very successful business career in technology and finance, and now, during his campaign, he will focus on the people he fights for, the states of Pennsylvania, Michigan, Wisconsin, Ohio, Minnesota and the United States of America workers and farmers.
Let’s face it, it’s Vance’s ability to constantly suck up to Trump and his willingness to violate the Constitution that amazes Trump, not Mike Pence’s concern for democracy. Vance is controversial, but he fits Trump’s profile because he’s not too well-liked or popular to outrank the former president.
Trump’s vice presidential pick has been a huge disappointment. None of these options will create excitement or expand Trump’s influence among non-Make America Great Again voters. Vance is best known for defending his Silicon Valley home while running for Senate and writing a book that people in Appalachia have described as false, empty and insulting.
Like Trump, J.D. Vance has no moral core. He will say or do anything to advance progress. In that respect, he’s the perfect running mate for Donald Trump, just don’t expect anyone insulted by the political shape-shifter to be surprised by J.D. Vance’s choice.
