MILWAUKEE – Donald Trump has officially been nominated as the Republican Party’s 2024 presidential candidate and named Ohio Sen. J.D. Vance as his running mate, a day after Trump’s final presidential primary opponent in the Republican Party became the focus at the National Congress.
former south carolina Governor Nikki Haley, Trump, who served as U.N. ambassador in his administration, will speak at the convention on Tuesday, multiple sources familiar with the decision confirmed to Fox News over the weekend.
As of last week, Haley had not been invited to speak at the convention and did not plan to attend the four-day meeting in the battleground state of Wisconsin, the largest city.
But after an assassination attempt on Trump on Saturday at a rally in western Pennsylvania, where a bullet grazed his ear and left him visibly bleeding, leaving one spectator dead and two seriously injured, Republicans quickly rallied around their standard-bearer . As part of the drive for unity, Haley was invited to speak at the convention.

On March 6, the day after Trump swept 14 of the 15 Republican nominating contests on Super Tuesday, Haley announced she was suspending her White House campaign.
When she left the game, Hailey made it clear that she planned to continue speaking out. And Haley continues to capture up to 20% of the Republican vote presidential primary in the months after she dropped out of school.
In late May, Haley made her first public comments since announcing she was ending her 2024 campaign, saying she would vote for Trump.
Haley won a total of 97 delegates in the Republican presidential primary. Last week, Haley released all the delegates and urged them to support Trump.
“There was a lot of discord there, and she was there too long,” Trump said last week when asked about Haley in an interview with Fox News’ Brian Kilmeade.

Also in the spotlight on the second night of the convention, several high-profile Republican Senate candidates will address Republican delegates from a podium at the Feather Forum in Milwaukee.
Republicans are aiming to win back the Senate majority they lost in the 2020 election cycle, thanks in part to a very favorable Senate electoral map.
Tuesday’s meeting follows significant developments on Monday.
Trump announced his highly anticipated running mate just before the formal nomination during the convention’s presidential roll call.
With an eye on the future of the Republican Party dominated by Trump and his legions of supporters, the former president has added Vance, 39, to the party’s national slate of candidates.
Trump will now share the ticket with one of his top supporters in the Senate and a one-time Trump critic who has turned into a major believer in “America First.”
Vance, a former venture capitalist and author of the best-selling memoir “Hillbilly Elegy,” was one of the few Republicans considered a top running mate before running for office. The group also includes North Dakota Gov. Doug Burgum and Florida Sen. Marco Rubio.
According to Fox News, Rubio and Burgum received calls hours before Trump announced he would not be named his running mate.
A source within Vance’s political circle told Fox News that the senator was not informed of his selection as running mate until 20 minutes before Trump announced his choice in a social media post on the Truth platform.
