Charles opens British Parliament with ‘King’s Speech’
King Charles III officially opened Parliament and read out the agenda of the newly elected Labor government.

My Lords and Commons, my Government will govern in the service of our country. Our Government’s legislative program will be mission-led and underpinned by the principles of security, equity and opportunity for all. Stability will be the cornerstone of our government’s economic policy. Our government recognizes the urgency of the global climate challenge. It is committed to a clean energy transition that will lower energy bills for consumers over time. A bill will be introduced to establish Great Britain Energy, a publicly owned clean electricity company based in Scotland. My government will work to strengthen borders and make streets safer. A bill will be introduced to modernize the asylum and immigration systems. Its commitment to NATO will remain unshakable. It will maintain strong armed forces, including a nuclear deterrent. To ensure that the UK’s defense capabilities match the changing nature of global strategic threats, our Government will conduct a Strategic Defense Review.
