The first part of the sixth and final season cobra kai Premiering on Netflix this week, yes, you’ll have to wait four months to see what happens next. Meanwhile, io9 wraps up our series of interviews with show creators Jon Hurwitz, Josh Heald, and Hayden Schlossberg with spoilers.
Specifically, we asked about what’s in store for parts two and three of the final season, and what key choices will be made in part one as the six characters journey across the world to the Western Sea. Read these answers and more below.
Germain Lussier, io9: So for Saikai Taikai, you decided to have 6 people from Miyagi Michi participate. It could be any number, but you chose six. Obviously, the show is leaning into the fact that four of them are locked up.
Jon Hurwitz: We made it six because we thought we wanted to have a decent number of team members at Saikai Taikai. When we started thinking about the type of event we wanted to host, we thought it would be fun to have different characters there – not just [for] The stuff on the mat, but also the drama we want to do off the mat with our characters. You know, the core four that you’d expect to go to are Miguel, Robbie, Tori, and Sam. We wanted to play with the captaincy and that element to create some extra drama. In the writers’ room, we sometimes talk about scenarios where one of the four guys doesn’t go initially and then maybe ends up being there or whatever. We discussed many things.
But part of the fun of, say, episode four of the first five episodes is that we get to follow the Devon family, the Kenneth family, the Anthony family – Demetri, Hawke, these characters in the world, because all of them , all have elements that make them their protagonists. It’s fun to be able to work with them to create a different type of competition than you’ve seen before. Ultimately, we like the idea of Hawke not being involved for a while, but then being given the opportunity. We love the idea of Devon making mistakes and doing things that aren’t entirely right for her and seeing where that takes us. Anthony and Kenny are then left in the Valley with the responsibility and we’ll see what happens with these guys.
But really, it’s all about taking all the characters and storylines that you want to play throughout the season and figuring out, “Okay, who do we want here? Who do we want there? The interesting stories of the characters. What is it?
io9: What do you want to say about the second and third parts of Season 6?
Hurwitz: Part 2 – We finally made it to the World Championships. We’re in the West Coast Conference and you’re going to see a game that’s unlike any other game you’ve ever seen in the West Coast Conference. karate kid movie or cobra kai,It’s interesting. Your six warriors come from [Miyagi-Do] You’ll meet fighters from all over the world. This is really exciting for us. Everyone is very focused on the internal conflict of who will actually be participating in this game, we know Cobra Kai will be participating, but they won’t be the only dojo in this game. So it’s going to be very exciting for people to see the level of karate we have in that competition and the type of competition we have. You know, there’s a lot of fighting in the ring, but there’s also a lot of drama outside the ring, like there’s always been on the show. So we’re excited about that.
And then, you know, for the last five games, it’s not just about finishing the game cobra kai as a series but it’s been digging karate kid Movie. This is a resolution for many of the characters and a new beginning for them in different ways. I think this will be a really fun, fulfilling final five episodes for fans of the series. If you’ve only been a fan for a few years, or if you’ve been a fan for 40 years, you’re in for a real treat during the last five games.
cobra kai The first part of Season 6 is now streaming on Netflix.
