A ransomware attack hit the Los Angeles County Superior Court system Friday morning, prompting officials to disable the network for at least the weekend.
The attack does not appear to be related to a CrowdStrike update bug that triggered a global technical outage on Friday, officials said in a statement.
CrowdStrike is a major provider of software designed to protect businesses from ransomware, in which attackers encrypt and block access to computer systems or data until some kind of payment is made. Law enforcement is investigating the attack on the courthouse and so far “there is no evidence that the courthouse [users’] Data was compromised,” the statement said.
The statement said that after the attack was discovered, the court’s network system was disabled to minimize losses. The systems are expected to be offline for at least the weekend to resolve the issue.
Officials did not specify which “network systems” were disabled. However, as of Friday evening, multiple pages on the court’s website were down and returning error messages, including the jury portal.
