Julia Gordon, Commissioner federal housing administration (FHA) and a leading voice U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development (HUD), will return for the third consecutive year National Reverse Mortgage AssociationThe (NRMLA) Annual Meeting and Expo will be held in San Diego in September.
NRMLA announced the news in an email alert to its members. Gordon will deliver the keynote address at the conference on September 24 at the Hard Rock Hotel.
The association said Gordon will speak about the Home Equity Conversion Mortgage (HECM) scheme’s “significant achievements so far in 2024”, as well as other priorities in the reverse lending space.
At last year’s event, Gordon used public speaking time to assure attending reverse mortgage professionals that HUD and FHA remained committed to the HECM program.
“[O]For those who own homes, we also know that almost all of them — 92 percent, according to some statistics I found — want to age in their own homes,” Gordon said in Nashville last October. “The FHA Home Equity Conversion Mortgage is designed to help seniors who want to stay in their homes for as long as possible.”
Being in this reality is a commitment, she added.
“That’s why I want to make it clear on the front end this year, as I did last year, that we at FHA are fully committed to the health, stability, and broad availability of the HECM program,” she said to applause.
Gordon also works with house line’s Reverse Mortgage Daily (RMD) conversation at the 2023 event, published as part of the November RMD Podcast episode.
