Delta Airlines (NYSE:DAL) said Saturday more than 600 flights were canceled as the top U.S. airline continues to recover from what many say is the world’s worst IT outage caused by CrowdStrike (CRWD).) Defects affecting Microsoft (Microsoft Corporation) systems spread around the world.
Most of Saturday’s flight cancellations occurred in the morning and early afternoon, the airline said, adding that travel exemptions remained in effect for passengers.
The outage caused flight delays and cancellations across the airline industry on Friday, as glitches in the CrowdStrike ( CRWD ) update affected the Microsoft ( MSFT ) operating system and crippled other sectors including banks and hospitals.
Delta Air Lines (DAL) alone had more than 1,200 flight cancellations on Friday.
“Throughout operations, Delta’s (DAL) teams at the airport, on board flights, by phone and text messages have worked tirelessly to serve customers, while the airline is working to keep crews and aircraft safe and sound following the disruption. Restore.
“DAL will notify customers of delays and cancellations via the Fly Delta app and text messages, and provide rebooking options that can be managed online,” the airline added.
The Federal Aviation Administration, the U.S. aviation regulator, said on Friday it was “closely monitoring” the impact of the outage, adding that several airlines had requested assistance with ground parking for their fleets.
