Trump was banned indefinitely in 2021 following the Jan. 6 insurrection attempt at the Capitol. His ban was quietly lifted on Friday – seemingly as the entire online infrastructure was brought down by the CrowdStrike outage. Why was Trump allowed to come back? “We will continue to enforce our Community Guidelines and take necessary enforcement action when we see violations of the rules,” a Twitch spokesperson said. “Twitch does not have a ‘Public Figure Policy,’ meaning all channels adhere to our policies equally.” Guidelines, regardless of whether the channel belongs to a public figure.”
You’d be forgiven for thinking Twitch had already made this move—many other social media sites have already allowed Trump to return. YouTube and Musk’s X lifted bans, and Meta recently lifted harsh suspensions it had previously imposed on Trump’s Instagram and Facebook pages.
In short: Trump is completely back online.
