My fellow Americans,
We have made tremendous progress as a country over the past three and a half years.
Today, the United States has the strongest economy in the world. We have made historic investments in rebuilding our country, lowering prescription drug costs for seniors, and providing affordable health care to record numbers of Americans. We provide much-needed care to one million veterans exposed to toxic substances. Passed first gun safety law in 30 years. Appoints the first African American woman to the Supreme Court. and passed the most significant climate legislation in world history. America has never been in a better position to lead than today.
I know none of this would be possible without you, the American people. Together, we have overcome a once-in-a-century epidemic and the worst economic crisis since the Great Depression. We protected and preserved our democracy. We also reinvigorated and strengthened our alliances around the world.
Serving as your President has been the greatest honor of my life. While I intend to seek re-election, I believe it is in the best interests of my party and the country that I resign and focus on my duties as President for the remainder of my term.
I will provide details of my decision to The Nation later this week.
Now, let me express my deepest gratitude to all those who worked so hard to get me re-elected. I want to thank Vice President Kamala Harris for being an outstanding partner in all of this work. Let me express my sincere gratitude to the American people for the trust and confidence they have placed in me.
Today I believe what I have always believed: There is nothing America can’t do if we work together. We just have to remember that we are the United States of America.
