In her first statement since President Biden announced he was ending his re-election bid, Vice President Harris said she will work to win the nomination and that Democrats will win together.
In a statement provided to PoliticusUSA, Vice President Harris said:
On behalf of the American people, I want to thank Joe Biden for his extraordinary leadership as President of the United States and his decades of service to our country. His extraordinary achievements are unparalleled in modern American history, surpassing the legacies of many two-term presidents.
It has been an honor to serve as Vice President, and I am deeply grateful to the President, Dr. Biden, and the entire Biden family. I first became acquainted with President Biden through his son, Beau. We became friends while each was attorney general in our respective states. As we worked together, Beau told me stories about his father. What kind of father he is and what kind of person he is. The qualities that Beau admired in his father are the same qualities, the values, that I see every day in Joe’s leadership as president: his honesty and integrity. His big heart and commitment to faith and family. and his love for our country and the American people.
Through this selfless and patriotic act, President Biden is doing what he has done his entire life: putting the American people and our country above all else.
I am honored to have the President’s support and my intention is to earn and win this nomination. Over the past year, I have traveled across the country talking to Americans about the clear choices in this momentous election. This is what I will continue to do in the coming days and weeks. I will do everything in my power to unite the Democratic Party, unite our country, and defeat Donald Trump and his extreme Plan 2025 agenda.
There are 107 days until Election Day. We will fight together. Together we will win.
President Biden has indeed accomplished more in one term than most presidents accomplish in two, and given Vice President Harris has received a wave of support, Democrats can talk about having a choice next process for the Democratic nominee, and while that may be true, it’s looking increasingly likely that Harris will be the nominee no matter what process they use, and she immediately sent the right message for Democrats to unite and respond. to the same position.
