Trump claimed in a call with reporters that he wanted to debate Vice President Kamala Harris, but he did not want the debate to be aired on ABC. This appears to be an attempt by Trump to change the network or withdraw from the debate.
Lisa Desjardins of PBS Newshour wrote:
Former President Trump said in a phone interview with reporters that he was committed to a debate with Vice President Harris but was not excited about ABC as the debate moderator. He also said he was willing to have more than one debate.

Trump said during a call with reporters:
– He wants to debate Harris, but not on ABC
– Wouldn’t have changed his VP choice if he’d known Biden was out
– Criticism of Harris focuses on two things: crime and the border
Trump only answered six questions, three of which came from the Murdoch media “Wall Street Journal”, “Fox News”, “New York Post”, “The Daily Caller”, “Politico” and Breitbart News.
That Donald Trump won’t answer any questions from the objective media speaks volumes about his situation in this election.
Trump has complained about ABC since Harris entered the race. Given his history of criticizing the network over the years and using those criticisms to skip debates, it would certainly be in character for him to try to withdraw from a scheduled debate on ABC. Trump has previously said he would only be willing to have more debates if they were held on networks such as Fox News and Newsmax.
So far in 2024, Trump has refused to debate anyone younger than him, so it will be interesting to see if he comes up with some excuse to avoid a debate with Vice President Harris, who currently leads the former president. .
