Rep. Jimmy Gomez, D-Calif., left many people cold when he called on Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu to resign after a speech in Congress.
Rep. Gomez said:
Netanyahu’s speech to Congress and his actions since taking office were as inadequate, and I call on him to resign immediately. I met today with the hostage families, who overwhelmingly criticize Netanyahu and believe he is not doing enough to serve their families and families across the region — and I stand with them.
As I have said before, his approach to this war and his rejection of a two-state solution has brought unimaginable suffering to the region, failed to keep his own people safe, and made us all less secure . It is long past time for all parties to agree to a ceasefire to end the suffering of civilians in Gaza, bring the hostages home, end this horrific war, and hold those responsible for the events of October 7 to account.
We won’t give Netanyahu a platform at PoliticusUSA for his false claims, but Ben Rhodes posted:
Bibi’s speech describes a reality that does not exist. Lie about cutting off the food supply. Lying about civilian casualties. Avoiding responsibility for the 10/7 security failure and diplomatic failure to bring the hostages home. Seeking applause for unattainable military goals.
Just imagine what this speech would have looked like elsewhere in the world – a leader who would never have received such a reception in Israel, but who had a platform to stir up trouble in Congress.
Hamas attacks Israel. Israelis have the right to defend themselves. What they have no right to do is what Netanyahu did in the name of the Israeli people. The atrocities were not committed against Hamas, but against civilians in Gaza. Netanyahu, like Trump, is an alleged criminal who sought to evade prosecution through elected office.
Netanyahu was supposed to resign and was never given a platform to address Congress.
