Interim Seattle Police Chief Sue Rahr fired Officer Daniel Auderer, vice president of the Seattle Police Officers Association, for making “brutal comments” while talking to another officer about a civilian death and a cold laugh”. Officer Kevin Dave was driving at 74 mph when responding to an overdose call, but he “sounded” his siren instead of sounding it continuously. He struck and killed graduate student Jaahnavi Kandula in a crosswalk with a 25 mph speed limit. Odler, who was caught on his body camera during a phone conversation with union president Mike Solan, laughed and called Candula an “ordinary man” whose life had “limited value.” The King County Prosecutor’s Office declined to file criminal charges against Dave, saying there was “a lack of sufficient evidence to prove beyond a reasonable doubt that Officer Kevin Dave was guilty of driving under the influence of drugs or alcohol, reckless driving, or disregard for the safety of others.”
