“I have been diving for 40 years and I often find a bottle or two… but to find a sunken ship with so much cargo is a first for me,” said Thomas, a diver and head of Baltictech. Team Tomasz Stachura is a group of technical divers, said in a press release.
After the expedition, researchers examined artifacts to learn more about the ship’s history.
“We managed to take a photo of the brand name printed on the clay bottle, and it turned out that it was produced by the German company Selters and is still produced today. The logo had this precise shape for that period,” says underwater photographer Marek Cacaj , said the press release.
Divers estimate that the ship capsized in the second half of the 19th century.

According to the Baltic World Wildlife Fund, the Baltic Sea is the youngest ocean on Earth, emerging about 10,000 to 15,000 years ago as glaciers retreated at the end of the last Ice Age.
It is located in Northern Europe and is surrounded by Denmark, Estonia, Finland, Germany, Latvia, Lithuania, Poland, Russia and Sweden.
“The German brand Selters water was highly prized in the 19th century, often kept on royal tables and considered almost medicinal,” the press release states.
The Baltictech team is working with the Maris Foundation and Södertörn University to further analyze this rare find.
