Former President Donald Trump’s selection of J.D. Vance as his running mate led to a surge in sales of his best-selling 2016 memoir, “Hillbilly Elegy.”
A spokesperson for HarperCollins told The Associated Press that more than 650,000 copies have been sold since Trump made the announcement on July 15.
“We are printing hundreds of thousands of copies to meet demand from our retail partners,” the publisher announced Thursday.
Before Trump selected Vance as the Republican nominee, his book had sold more than 3 million copies. Ron Howard’s 2020 drama adaptation of “Hillbilly Elegy” tells the story of Vance’s childhood in Ohio and his family’s roots in rural Kentucky. The book was widely cited as required reading for Trump opponents seeking to understand his appeal to the white working class in the wake of Trump’s stunning victory in 2016, although some critics accused the book of being critical of Abba.
